A bit about me
Whether he's playing in a classical orchestra, in a rock or a country band, in a world music or jazz ensemble, William Lamoureux stands out for his remarkable stage presence, his charisma and his excellent technique on the violin. On stage, William leaves no one indifferent:
”When William Lamoureux starts playing his violin, there's an instant alertness in the audience, a focus on him on the stage. Perhaps it's the fluidity and energy of his playing, or the way he can switch effortlessly between percussive bowing and bittersweet melodies, or how his violin can sing so expressively." Alayne McGregor, "Ottawa Jazz Scene".
William is involved in a number of high profile projects including the Playground Project (playgroundproject.ca), a one-man-band act where he interprets well-known pop tunes arranged live on stage with vocals, violin, percussion and effects pedals. He is the founder of the exciting francophone rock group, Billy Love Band (billyloveband.com) recently nominated for Trille Or Awards as Best EP and as Medias’ Choice. He is also a member of the gypsy jazz quartet Gypsy Muse, the world music quartet So Long Seven (solongseven.com), who were nominated as instrumental group of the year at the Folk Music Awards 2019, and who completed their first European tour in November 2018, and singer-songwriter Kalyna Rakel’s band (kalynarakel.com). In the Fall of 2018, he was on stage with Jasper Gahunia playing their original music live with the RUBBERBANDance Group (www.rbdg.ca) in its latest creation, Ever So Slightly, at Place des Arts in Montreal and the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, among other venues. In addition, he is a featured artist at ONQ Live Entertainment (onq-live.com), Tip Top Entertainement and Bongo and B Entertainment (www.bongoandb.com) in Toronto.
William studied classical violin for nine years at the Québec Music Conservatory under Christian Vachon and Alexandre Da Costa, before entering Humber College. He perfected his approach to many styles of popular music under Drew Jurecka (violin), Alastair Kay, Ted Quinlan, Kirk McDonald & Pat LaBarbara (improvisation) and Denzal Sinclaire & Elaine Overholt (voice). He has opened for or shared the stage with artists such as Christian McBride, Shawn Phillips, Harry Manx, New Cities, Les Colocs, Loco Locas, Roch Voisine, Roddy Ellias, The New York Voices and Larry Goldings, among others.
William is in high demand as a studio musician, as an arranger, as a producer, as a sideman and as a performer in numerous private events. His primary instrument is violin but he is also a singer, guitarist, mandolinist, ukulelist and keyboardist.
